Macromedia Dreamweaver is
neither a pure HTML source code editor nor just a WYSIWYG editor - it's two
in one, in connection with an FTP upload program and a search 'n' replace function
through all pages of a project with regular expressions in just one program!
Enough with advertisement, here's the comparison - that's what Dreamweaver
has the edge on M$ Frontpage (Express) and Netscape Composer (we'll see what
NS6 will bring...):
- WYSIWYG editor and source
code editor in one
- check of one or more pages (whole site!) for errors
in the HTML syntax, links to local and global
addresses (half-automatic link correction!) and
browser compatibility (among other things all Netscape- and IE versions but
IE 5.0 and, of course, NS6)
- search and replace one or more files (displayed
text or HTML source code, in current document or the whole site
etc.) with comprehensive regular expressions search functions
- FTP upload program integrated (see site)
- very comprehensive possibilities of settings for tags and its attributes
- preview in two browsers of your choice
- easy definition and display of framesets and its NoFrames
areas in the program itself
- combination of nested tags / double definitions to one definition (e.g.
font color and font size)
and removal of empty tags
- use of Dreamweaver's HTML source formatting only if set; even then only
when and where editing
- no GENERATOR definitions in META
area
- display of the estimated time of download of the whole page
- variable adaption of size (e.g. 640x480 or 800x600)
- choice of case for tags and their attributes (UPPER-/lowercase)
- nearly infinite undo in WYSIWYG part

- synchronisation of the local site with the one accessible online. Adjustment
in both directions (local to online and vice-versa) or individually, finding
of files not existing any more on-/offline, window of results for check and
correction of the suggestions for actions. Eseful in this connection: "Window/Site
FTP-Log", e.g. for sending commands like chmod
(only with corresponding protections on the server and its support of the
use of command via FTP)
- ignorance of PHP- and ASP code, thus ability to operate with .ASP
.PHP .php4 .php4 files
- editing image maps in WYSIWYG windows more comfortably
- Quick Tag Editor in the WYSIWYG window for editingndividual tags
- HTML Styles (simple FONT- and other effects, not
to be mixed up with CSS)
- new objects like Date (only within BODY, thus unsuited
for <meta name="date" ...), E-Mail Link
(as dialogue for the WYSIWYG window), Special Characters, Framesets, Flash
4, Shockwave 7 etc.
- Clean Up Word HTML, i.e. cleaning up M$ Word HTML exports with various options
- "Design Notes", i.e. comments for, e.g., better arrangement in
working teams/tasks
- additional editors definable, e.g. for different images file formats or
something like that
- History for all actions in the WYSIWYG window, thus also the possibility
to record and save certain steps as action and to replay it later
- Reports: Find and fix frequent mistakes
- Assets: Multimedia data like images, Flash films, colors, URLs can be picked
comfortably from a list through the whole site or a Favorites selection

- split view if you like: WYSIWYG- and HTML code window in one

So, I couldn't make your mouth water at all? Either you show absolute indifference
for HTML and websites or you simply have a better program. WHAT?!
